The assistant director will serve as the principal employee and labor relations partner providing subject matter expertise in the consistent execution and delivery of HR services in areas of employee relations, investigations, HR policies and procedures. This individual will lead and manage all processes associated with proactive positive labor-management relations, and conflict and grievance resolution. The assistant director will collaborate with members of HR staff, University employees and managers to resolve complex workplace matters including, conducting investigations in response to formal complaints, interviewing appropriate parties, gathering and reviewing related documentation/data, drafting summary reports and presentation of recommendations for effective resolution. Additionally, the assistant director will be responsible for oversight of Title IX compliance, in collaboration with the student life office.. Duties and Responsibilities. (E) Provide effective guidance, advice and referrals on human resources policies, procedure, laws, and regulations in order to ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws such as FLSA, ADA, FMLA, and EEO/Affirmative Action. (E) Regularly updates the AVP of HR/EO on all matters of importance pertaining to employee and labor relations matters for further resolution or follow-up. (E) Manages and coordinates grievances by working closely with the AVP HR/EO and other senior university leadership. (E) Works to develop and sustain positive and proactive relationships with union leadership. (E) Works closely with the university's legal counsel and the Department of Higher Education to remain current on all matters pertaining to collective bargaining. Participates in collective bargaining including impact bargaining as necessary. (E) Oversees regulatory compliance with Title IX including the Equal Opportunity, Diversity and Affirmative Action Plan. (E) Oversees the receipt, investigation and resolution of complaints of sexual violence, sexual and gender-based harassment, domestic and dating violence, stalking and retaliation by employees, students and others protected under state/federal laws/regulations and/or the university EO Plan. (E) Maintain current knowledge of the laws, policies, procedures and best practices with regard to sexual violence, sexual and gender-based harassment, domestic and dating violence, stalking and retaliation; attending trainings, workshops, conferences to augment knowledge. Assist with programming, services, education, and assessment of Title IX compliance efforts. Demonstrate sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds. Demonstrate sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles. Serves as role model and mentor for students as appropriate. Qualifications. Required Qualifications:. Bachelor's degree in human resources, labor relations or related field. Five to seven years of recent human resources experience in an employee relations role with significant exposure to employment and labor law, preferably in a similarly sized, complex organization. Extensive experience conducting investigations, preferably related to employee and labor relations. Considerable knowledge of state and federal employment labor laws and practice. Experience influencing and coaching at appropriate levels. Preferred Qualifications:. Master's degree in a relevant area or Juris Doctorate. Five years of experience in a unionized environment. Self-directed with a demonstrated track record of exemplary relationship-building and analytical, sound judgement, critical thinking skills, detail orientation, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to deliver clear and succinct messages tactfully. Ability to review and analyze data in order to formulate and draw conclusions. Ability to build rapport, work collaboratively with, and navigate complex issues across constituencies on and off campus, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Experience supervising or managing multiple employees. PHR/SPHR certification. Previous experience with Title IX, VAWA , Clery Act, and FERPA. Working Conditions:.
