The Director of Alumni Relations leads a dynamic alumni engagement program for the Geisel School of Medicine and Dartmouth-Hitchcock (D-H). As the primary strategist for alumni engagement, (s)he collaboratively develops and implements activities that strengthen loyalty and goodwill towards Geisel and D-H and nurture a sense of community; provides meaningful opportunities for alumni engagement; and inspires increasing levels of alumni participation and investment in Geisel and D-H. (S)he partners with colleagues across the College and its graduate schools to raise the profile of Geisel and D-H among Dartmouth alumni in medicine and related fields.. Required Qualifications. Skills & Knowledge. Collaborative and service-oriented. Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work across a complex organization and with a diverse alumni body. Sensitivity to the needs and attitudes of alumni. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Well-developed management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work at both the strategic and tactical levels of program development and implementation. Proven track record of success in strengthening alumni engagement. Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community. Frequent travel required to establish and cultivate relationships with alumni. Experience. Five years of relevant experience in alumni relations or medical student affairs. Three years in a senior management position. Three years in an academic medicine, healthcare, or higher education environment. Education. Bachelor's degree. Preferred Qualifications. Skills & Knowledge. Familiarity with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge. Familiarity with best practices and current trends in medical alumni relations. Experience. Direct experience in medical alumni relations. Education. Further professional education in alumni relations. Develops sustainable programming that serves a diverse regional and national audience that includes Geisel MD alumni, graduates of The Dartmouth Institute, and D-H housestaff alumni.. Manages budget and staffing resources and collaborates closely with Engagement Team colleagues to achieve alumni relations goals.. Develops, monitors, and reports on metrics by which to measure progress toward program goals.. Works with the Executive Director of Advancement Administration to identify and implement the systems and data needs required to support a successful program, including the gathering and maintenance of accurate alumni information and the implementation of technology to enhance the effectiveness of alumni programming.. Cultivates and maintains effective relationships and regular communication with Geisel and D-H administrators, faculty, physicians, students, and staff as appropriate, and with College partners in alumni relations.. Partners with peers across the College and its professional schools on initiatives of shared interest and which raise the profile of the medical school among Dartmouth alumni in health professions.. Stays abreast of best practices and emerging trends and opportunities in medical alumni relations.. Alumni Communication:. As the primary point of contact with the school for alumni, listens and communicates effectively and responds to alumni inquiries in a timely fashion.. Meets and communicates with various alumni groups and committees both on and off campus to discuss areas of interest and/or concern. Meets, talks, and corresponds with hundreds of individual alumni during the course of a year.. In collaboration with Engagement Team colleagues in communications and creative services, develops and implements a broad-based alumni communications plan, using print, web, and digital tactics to inform, interact, and strengthen the reputation of Geisel and D-H among alumni. Monitors metrics and periodically evaluates communications tactics.. Alumni Engagement:. Works proactively with colleagues in Geisel student affairs, The Dartmouth Institute, and D-H clinical departments to identify opportunities to increase alumni engagement. Develops, implements, and evaluates alumni engagement programs.. Provides strategic guidance and support for Geisel's Alumni Council and for other alumni committees, working groups, and volunteers. Advises the chair of the Council, the Executive Director, and Dean on all issues related to the Alumni Council.. In collaboration with the leader of Development and Alumni Events, develops a comprehensive alumni events strategy, including medical school reunions and partnerships with D-H clinical departments and College offices. Responsible for developing goals and programmatic content for individual alumni events and for post event follow-up and evaluation.. Works with Geisel's Office of Student Affairs to develop and implement programs that increase student and alumni interaction, providing value to students and advancing the school's educational mission.. Oversees the medical school's annual alumni awards program and seeks other ways to bring alumni accomplishments to the attention of institutional audiences.. Strengthens and supports networks of Geisel, D-H, and Dartmouth alumni in medicine.. Supervision:.
